REPEAT REQUEST - How to install OS X on X41

#1 Post by asiafish » Wed Aug 23, 2006 10:32 pm

Hello, I posted this before and got no response. I have an X41 and desperately want to run OS X on it, but I can't get either my 10.4.5 or 10.4.6 installers (MAxxus and JAS) to run past the blue screen.

Both boot through the gray apple screen, go to the pretty OS X blue, but rather than the installer program starting like it should, the machine just hangs at blue.

HELP!!!!!

So NOBODY has gotten an OS X installer to work on an X41? Can't anyone help me get past the blue screen so that I can format the drive and install the OS?

I'm not happy with current Apple portable hardware and really need for this to work as my office is all Apple.

1) Immediately when the blue screen appears press "Fn F7".
OR
2) Plug in an external monitor
OR
3) Select F8 and then -v for a verbose boot before the grey screen appears.

I have 10.4.7 working on an X41. See my post for issues and fixes. 10.4.5 & 10.4.6 also work

The last poster reminds me that I had the same problem with a burned ISO. I re-burned it and then installed with no problems.

Hi all,

I'm trying again too.
Once I had it running and by googling around I know that it is possible (even with working tablet input!).
Right now I'm trying using the SnowOSX build.
No luck so far: I get a "Syncing disks... killing all processes ... MACH REBOOT"
I have the idea this has to do with the video because in a virtual machine it hangs right after changing the resolution (it seems).

Anyone had more luck trying another image?

I hope we can work this out together soon!

Cheers.

Cool! I got it but I need to find a colleague with a mac to make the bootable USB for me.
I read the manual and it is awesome! The best hackintosh-manual I've ever read!
Other good news is that i accidentally got in touch with the developer (protocolx) through the http://www.muzzle.nl/ forum.

Almost ready to go! OSX! GO GO GO! //R

Snow Leopard works from a USB-pendrive on my X41 Tablet!

But I haven't been able to reinstall or clone a copy to a partition on my internal harddrive yet, which is sad.

Disk Utility says: "You can't resize partitions on this disk because it uses the master boot record scheme."

I can't unmount the local drive (even using sudo diskutil umount force ... does not work). This is why I CopyCatX does not work, because it can't unmout the destination partition either.

Can I prevent the local disk being mounted on boot from USB anyway? Why is it mounted automatically?

Furthermore:
-Sound does not work
-Network cards do not work
-Pen input doesn't work
-SD card slot does not work
-Graphics work, but without the right driver, so no acceleration or higher resolutions).
... YET! ;)

Any help?!

That's a good news ! ...

For sound and SD card you can use VoodooHDA.kext and VoodooSDHCI.kext from VoodooProject (just copy them in S/L/E and run pfix)

For the tablet you need TabletEnabler.kext and you have to modify Apple16X50.kext (see my previous thread ) ... add them in S/L/E and run pfix ...

For Intel GMA 900 ... have a look here ... maybe that works on Snow ...

Don't forget : there are many OSX86 web sites ... the answers of any of your questions are in their forum ... (insanelymac, infinitemac, projectosx ...)

Thanks Sebinouse!

I'll work on installing kexts once I have Snow installed on a local partition. (The speed of the USB-pendrive install is not worth writing home about as we say in Dutch ;) ) ...

Anyone any suggestion how to make a new install of Snow from the working pendrive install?
As far as I know i need a GUID instead of a MBR or something. Can I backup my Windows 7 partition somehow and place it back after making a clean Snow install?

Thanks again!
This forum is golden!

Hi all,

It's not going too well yet.
Getting Snow installed on a partition next to windows 7 is not that easy it seems.
What I did find out: It is possible to keep MBR if you CLONE a working OSX install to a partition on an MBR drive.
I need to get rid of my GRUB; It is complaining every time I make changes to partitions and won't boot anymore (Grub rescue seems to be useless).

Just so you know ... ;)

I've installed Snow Leo on MBR partition next to previously installed Windows 7. It is tricky, but not very hard. Customized installer that allows you to install SL on MBR can be found here.

First you restore SL DVD to a USB flash drive, then install on that USB drive Chameleon or AsereBLN booter. Then you copy custom installer filles (OSInstall.mpkg and OSInstall) to their respective places and also copy necessary kexts to /E/E. Once you boot from USB flash, you will be able to install SL to an MBR partition.

After installation you need to boot to Windows 7 with installation DVD and from console use DISKPART utility to activate Windows 7 boot partition.
