The Hitachi 7K100 has long been a favorite among users here, but there are similar offerings from other HD manufacturers that are also considered quiet and reliable.sakkara wrote:can anyone recomed the best brand and model of 7200rpm ide drive to suit my A31P thanks
For the record, my A31P is equipped with two 7K100s and runs 24/7 as my home server.

I have two Hitachi Deskstars, 100 gigs and 7200 rpms each, in my A31. They're far quieter than my old HD, and while I might be imagining things, but they seem a bit quicker.

I sincerely doubt they're "Deathstars", but rather Travelstars!nem0 wrote:I have two Hitachi Deskstars, 100 gigs and 7200 rpms each, in my A31.
Deskstars are, as the name implies, 3.5" desktop HDs.

My bad! Good call, James :) I was just installing an old "Deathstar" in a USB enclosure recently, and had desktop parts on the brain.JHEM wrote:I sincerely doubt they're "Deathstars", but rather Travelstars!

I recently upgraded my trusty A21p from the 7K60 60gb to the 7K100 100gb and found my old laptop new again. Maybe the 7K60 was old (November 2003) or just tired but found a big performance improvement.
Just my .02c.
