Get a Wireless Access Point (WAP) for her dorm room and the problem is solved.janedoefrmthehbr wrote:Hi,My daughter is off to college with a 600x wireless, only to find out her dorm has ethernet connection.Do we need a card?Any suggestions ,I'm not familiar with this type of hookup.thanks
If she absolutely has to use the wired connection because of security concerns by the school, get her a cheap PCMCIA Ethernet Card off eBay. Here's a reliable one.

Yes, the 600 series machines are particularly robust and reliable, the 600X especially so.janedoefrmthehbr wrote:Its kind of funny ,her IBM tank keeps rolling on as her friend's Dell is melting.
These are such great units.thanks again.
After travelling around the world with me, my severely upgraded 600X was passed down to my commercial pilot son. Now, after several years of being dragged in and out of aircraft cockpits, he finally gave it up for an X31. But, that doesn't mean I got it back!
His new wife (another commercial pilot) has acquired it to replace her completely unreliable ONE YEAR OLD Toshiba and uses this now six year old machine daily for work. I've offered her a choice of newer machines as a replacement, but she won't give it up!
Make sure you impress upon your daughter that she needs to lock her laptop away when she's not using it. Laptops in dormitories have a tendency to grow legs and walk away!
Regards,
James
