move hd from one machine to another without resinstallation?

#1 Post by bigtiger » Thu Aug 24, 2006 4:40 pm

I am planning to move the HD from my X24 to X31.

Is it possible that I can still keep the operation system of X24 Hard drive?

I remember that I could do it by deleting some files. But I forgot. Anybody can clarify?

Done that several times.

Try it out - if you get BSOD replace ide driver of the HD with "standard ide"

The rest together with software installer is a piece of cake

Yup... Just go into device manager end update.

there you specify that you should use a the standard driver which is already installed on the system.

It might not be necessary though. Try to replace first

Just uninstall the IDE drivers like he says, shut down the computer and throw the harddrive in the other system. Dont bother changing the driver to a standard one, once it boots in the new system it will auto detect.

Still though a full format is a much much better solution.

i moved an hd from a 570 to a t20 with no problems, minus an occasional hibernation glitch.
