Intel LAN Card disappears from system

#1 Post by mithras85 » Fri Aug 25, 2006 8:18 am

Occasionally I will notice that my Intel LAN (not the wireless, just the wired) card disappears from the system when I'm not using a wired network connection. I'm running Win XP and in event viewer it says that the LAN card has "unexpectedly disappeared without being removed." I noticed this happens soon after I unplug the computer and am running on battery power. If I plug in a network cable it comes back immediately, though, so maybe this is a power saving feature? I was just concerned because I hadn't read about this anywhere. Thanks for any help.

It's a power saving feature.

It gets turned off on battery and turned back on when on AC.

Is there any way to turn that on and off other than plugging in the power cord? I ran into the same issue recently when I was trying to set up some network profiles for wired connections while being in battery mode.

Yes I think that you can that by disabbleing the Deep Smart Power Down funktion.

You do that by opening the device manager then selecting the networks card, then chose advanced and select the right property.
