How do I turn out touchpad on Z60t?

#1 Post by jagged » Fri Aug 25, 2006 9:08 am

Hello!

Finally got the Z60t (2513MHU) I ordered from Lenovo today!

I'm setting up the computer and notice that the touchpad doesn't work. So I went to the Thinkpad Configuration window but realize that the Touch pad icon can't be highlighted.

Where should I go next to enable the touchpad? I can click on Trackpoint icon but not the Touchpad from Thinkpad Configuration.

Thanks!!

Just an update, whenever I press Fn+F8 to check mouse devices present, a window appears saying "UltraNav Driver is not installed".

So I went to Lenovo downloads page and installed all the Ultranav related drives and wizards but the same message appears when I press Fn+F8. Its strange I'm getting this message because the driver is present when I check the programs installed on the Z60t.

Please help!

Maybe it isn't plugged in.

Get the maintenance manual and follow the instructions for removing the palm rest and see if it is plugged in all the way.

How do I turn ON touchpad on Z60t?

#4 Post by jagged » Fri Aug 25, 2006 10:23 pm

Yes, that can be the reason.

I checked BIOS and and touchpad wasn't one of the options on the mouse configuration unlike my other Thinkpads.

I will try to check out your suggestion... Thanks!

Glad I could help.
I hate to see this sort of thing on a brand new thinkpad though. :(
I was never thrilled with the build quality of my T42 - it just never felt right to me (and it is pretty much dead now). It didn't have that solid feel that my X21 had and still has. I even convinced myself that the T42 felt the way it did to me because it was a 15".
But my Z60m feels like what I think a thinkpad should feel like. Everything about it gives me confidence in its workmanship - I couldn't be happier.

touchpad gone

I had the same problem with the touchpad..disappeared from the bios too. I believe it was caused when I turned on the laptop with my USB flash drive in the slot. The computer gets confused......btw you can turn OFF USB booting in the bios. Anyway the fix was to take off the palmrest....the touchpad plugs into the board there....I sinmply unplugged it, plugged it back in and viola it was back again!
