CPU upgrade

#1 Post by flybuddy » Fri Aug 25, 2006 7:57 pm

I've got a 600x, 650 mhz, 60 gig hd, 576 ram--runs great on windows 2k pro. Is the mod to 850 mhz cpu worth it? Not many MMC2 850 P3s floating around and they want top dollar for the occasional one that pops up. How are the 800 mhz CPUs in comparison?? (any diff other than 50mhz?) I thought of looking for an old (parts only) notebook that might have a compatible processor. Anyone know which laptops ran higher end MMC2 CPUs?? Looks like the Dell 5000/7500, some older Toshibas and some older Compaqs--sound right??

Add Sonys and Gateways to your search.

Do anybody know the exact models that came with PIII MMC-2 700mhz, 750mhz, 800mhz and 850mhz?

There are many but the exact models would make it easy to find them. (Maybe that is asking too much ) :)

To cmarti:
The laptop model numbers won't give you the processor speed that is inside.
IE: a gateway 9300 could be 366 to an 850 and could have one of 7 motherboards in it.
