Windows Shutdown / Powerdown Issues

#1 Post by misosoup » Sat Aug 26, 2006 11:25 am

Hey guys,

I just bought an IBM Thinkpad Z61t and after doing a clean install of windows and updating everything (Windows Update, IBM Software, New Bios) my computer refuses to shutdown/powerdown. It gets all the way to a black screen with the mouse cursor visible but not active and just hangs there. It's been driving me crazy trying to come up with a fix. I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem and knew of a solution? (Oh by the way system restore is not an option as I wiped the restore partition to make room for a few extra GBs... which in retrospect now seems like a very, very bad idea). Thanks!

Reinstalling is like throwing the baby out with the bath water. I'd only do that as a last recourse.

Try some of these ideas first:
