Delivery dates & shipping method

#1 Post by Budge » Wed Aug 18, 2004 12:46 pm

I will be ordeing a 2379DXU directly from IBM tonight and was wondering about the estimated delivery dates and shipping method. Currently the website indicates that the notebook will ship within 2-4 weeks. How accurate are these ship dates? Futrhermore, is it true that IBM always ships using 2nd business day service? The standard shipping which indicates 2-5 day UPS ground service is free and the optional 2nd business day service is $43.00. What has been your experience?

The bottom line is I need this notebook on or before September 9th (leaving for school), which is exactly 3 weeks from tomorrow. Do you think it will be delivered in time, regardless of which delivery method selected? I am cheap & really don't want to pay extra for 2nd day service.

Thanks,
Budge

Did you do a price check with Bill. He might have one in stock and you could have it in plenty of time.
T41p-GEU / T42p-KXU bought from Bill/ T60p-8HU / 4 T400p's and now a T440p

I checked with Bill and he does not offer this specific model?

I in late July, ordered my 2373HVU from IBM, the sales rep gave me an estimated ship date of 15 days after I put in my order. The next morning I checked the status of my order online and it gave me an estimated ship date of well over a month after the date I placed my order. Three days later the Thinkpad was shipped :D . It appears that IBM is fairly conservative with there ship commits and often ship way before they say they will.

I chose the standard option and IBM still shipped it second day. The only worries I would have is customs. I have heard horror stories about things getting caught up there for days  .

Good Luck,

Rich

i'd guess it will be on time, mine said 4 weeks and it got there in about 1 week. i got standard shipping and it showed it came 2nd day, very quick. worst case scenario, you can change the shipping address until IBM ships it out with a quick call to their customer service, once they ship it, it should only be about 4 days to get there. (or you could upgrade the shipping up to they time they ship)

I ordered a 23733VU last Monday (8/16) and chose the free standard shipping to save few bucks since I'm not in a rush to get the notebook.

Today I got an email says that my notebook has shipped with UPS 2nd day. I could not be any happier.

Now, I'm crossing my fingers to get the good keyboard and battery.

How funny, I ordered the exact same unit on monday and got an email today as well saying it was using 2 day even though I only paid for standard shipping.

UCI_MECH I am hoping it has the Blue Tooth antenna in mine even though the tabbook says it doesn't. Another poster on the forum said his did have the antenna even though it wasn't suposed to. Are you hoping for Blue Tooth antenna as well?

I think our laptop along with 32 others are on the same boat headed to IL from Hong Kong.

Ordered on Tuesday, got an ETA of 9/2/04 (or 2 weeks) then woke up this morning to find it had shipped via 2-Day (despite selecting free 5-day Ground). Only glitch is that tracking says I'll be getting 141 boxes with a total weight of 5lbs. Maybe, I'm getting 141 Thinkpads that weigh a little over an ounce each!

Thanks for all the responses. I went ahead and ordered the 2379DXU last night online. The estimated shipping date is 09/13/04, and I opted for the 2nd day service. I hated having to pay the extra $43.00 for shipping but I couldn't take the chance that it "might" be shipped 2nd day service for free. I need the notebook on 09/09/04, 4 days before the estimated ship date. I am hoping that IBM ships early as most people have indicated on this site.

When does the 30 day return policy take effect? From the order date? ship date? or date received?

DaveH......Which model did you order?

I will keep everyone posted when the notebook ships and let you know when I receive it.

Thanks

Actually it was the Bluetooth which delayed my decision to buy the 3VU. I wanted Bluetooth but I could not find a model with the spec of 3VU (1.7GHz, 14.1 SXGA, 512MB, 80GB, DVD-RW, Radeon 9600) and its price range. It was either throw about $500 more or go with a 15 SXGA model. Neither was an option. I can't afford the first choice and I wanted the mobility and form factor of the 14.1 model.
Right now I do not have any Bluetooth enabled device to use with my notebook, but I thought it would be nice to have it in case I got one of these devices.

BTW, how much you paid for your 3VU?

FYI, I just purchased a T42 on 8/11 and the ship date is still 9/2. I called IBM and they told me it will be even longer than that because they are all on backorder for 2.5 more weeks.

Anyone else buy a T42 recently? I hope it doesn't take a month from the time I ordered it.

I think mine's in the same shipment... but it has this message at Kentucky:

THE RECEIVER REQUESTS UPS TO HOLD THIS SHPT AND CONTACT THEM FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION BEFORE CUSTOMS CLEARANCE

Will this hold it up or not?

I ordered a 2379-DKU (an express model) through EPP on 8/12, it was shipped 2 day on 8/15, but marked for delivery as a next day air, so UPS attempted to deliver it on 8/17 before 10:30AM

Of course, I missed the delivery, UPS didn't make any attempt at all yesterday, despite my GF sitting at home all day waiting for the attempt, and when I called, the local shiping office thought that it might have been stolen out of their depot.

Luckily it was delivered today, still sealed in the the double-box - and I'm a happy camper...no to just get those recovery CDs.

Just talked to an IBM rep and it seems that T42s with 15" 1400x1050 screens are "still" in a backlog of 2 weeks.

So my 2378-EXU, which I ordered on 8/19 and configured to be exactly the same as 2379-DXU, won't be delivered until mid Sept after configuration and testing. Quite disappointed.

Anyone else has updates for a similar system?

Exactly what I was told last friday. They should be in the week of the 30th-3rd. Then add a week for customizing and shipping. Glad to hear someone else is having the same problem and that its not just me...

If my tight parents let me order, I'll do it tonight from bill (shipping to canada).

Hopefully it will get here by next friday, or I'm screwed, since I'm moving, and won't really be able to ship anything to where I'm going for a while.

Where are you going to move? Bill ships almost anywhere in the world.
