...Coming from China, will I get the China keyboard?

#1 Post by 2112 » Wed Aug 18, 2004 1:08 pm

Hello, I've just found out from my friendly IBM salesperson that my new 2373KTU will be shipping this week from China. Is this where all Thinkpads are born? Or is there also a facility in Tawain...hence the China Vs. Tawain keyboards....silly, but I know one of you has the answer!

All the ones I ordered came from China, 1 had Thai, 2 had China. Looks like "Shipped from China" just indicates the location of assembly, with whatever parts-on-hand.

I guess the same is applicable for the batteries too... Sony vs Sanyo.

where are you people hearing that one keyboard is different from another? what's special about the Thai ones? I don't see any info about this in the FAQ...

It has been widely posted that keyboards made in Thailand are superior to those made in China

Is there an easy way to tell which keyboard a unit has?

...one thing I read (which I'll do as soon as my machine arrives) is to shine a flashlight under the arrow keys, this should reveal the color of the bumbers under the key....Blue = Thailand(good) and Grey = China(bad). If this is wrong or if anyone else has input in determining keyboard type, I'd love to hear it
