Newer USB Devices not getting recognised by Win XP SP2

#1 Post by hughquinn » Tue Aug 29, 2006 1:52 am

Hi,

Has anybody experienced an issue where newer USB devices are not getting recognised.

I am running Windows XP SP2 on a T40 (Model 237375) BIOS version 3.20

I can use a USB mouse no problem and can connect an older Canon IXUS 30 (1 year old) no problem. However when I connect a newer Canon IXUS 55 and a new External HDD encased in a USB2.0 case but USB 1.1 compatible, I get the same message stating that:

" USB Device Not Recgonised
One of the USB Devices to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it."

It comes up as an unknown device in Device Manager

The Intel 8280 USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD is installed. I have uninstalled the USB controller and let Windows detect it again but same issue.

Has anybody experienced this same issue or know how it can be resolved?
