I'm looking myself into getting the NEC ND-6650. It fits into the Ultrabay with a slight modification (you need to cut a notch out of the plastic faceplate), but aside from that it seems like an excellent choice.

The NEC ND6650 is a tray style drive. I have the ND-6500 and it works great.

However, terki is looking for a slot drive. The Pioneer DVR-K06 is a slot drive, but not lightscribe:

Unfortunately, Newegg does not ship out of the USA.

Is DVR-K06 ready to go with ultrabay of my T23? Or some frame modifications are required?

THX guys :)

Just like the NEC one, you will need to cut a notch on the lower right corner of the faceplate. You will also need the back connector and the side rails from your old drive to put on your new drive.

Hmmm, would rails and connector from a standard T23 CD reader be OK?

are there any other slot-in drives that fit right into the T23? I was about to buy the Pioneer but decided I should shop a few minutes/days more. Would this unit fit both a T23 and a T41p?

Also, what about this Lite-On compared to the Pioneer:

These drives will only fit the T23. They are 12.7mm high and the T41p only accepts the 9.5mm high drives (as far as I know, only M a t s u s h i t a makes them). You can put them in a slim usb enclosure and have a very small and portable external burner.

The Lite-On burns DVD+/-RW at only 4x and DL at 2.4x, while the Pioneer is 8x for DVD+RW, 6X for DVD-RW and 4x DVD+R DL and supports DVD-RAM, important only if you use those formats.
