A31P POWER PROBLEM

PLEASE HELP
I have a31p works good on battery
but as soon as I hook up charger/adapter -it shuts off immidiately and if adapter is attached. it wont restart.
It wont work at all with adapter
I have to pull adapter and battery to restart.
ADAPTER IS GOOD (I HAVE ANOTHER A31P)
ok I have few adapters
Power jack on motherboard is good too
I remember when i had it working on battery, on teskbar was icon "charging"
I dont remember though if I had second/ultrabay battery in
any idea ?

The planar is likely blown out.

but I am capable to resolder most parts on board
could you please tell me what is "planar" ?

By planar I was referring to the motherboard (we call this a planar board). In the past, we used to build these machines with a seperate charging board, which could be replaced in the event of a failure like this one. In the interest of cost and space however, that became integrated into the planar.

Those boards by nature of age are relatively hard to come by, so I would assume they are rather expensive to replace these days.

I was told by someone that there are 3 power regulators .
1 2 or 3 of them could be burnt.
is it true ?
I hate to replace board because I want keep all #s matched.
I like this machine- it is wery expandable,there are ports which are needed for my job-newer machines dont have them.
lows -heavy/usb1.0/battery life
