What do model of these you recommend me?

#1 Post by docume » Wed Aug 18, 2004 4:14 pm

Hi all,

I have the next models avaible to buy here, at spain, since I am not an expert with thinkpad enviroments I would like to know your opinion. Here are the models and the price (without VAT):

R51 UJ032SP 1.159,24E Pentium Mobile
R40 184C213 1.252,02E Pentium Mobile
T41 TC12FSP 1.474,50E Centrino
T41 TC12GSP 1.615,00E Pentium Mobile

I have no more budget :PPPP

Should I make an effort in order to buy another model?
What is better? Pentium Mobile or Centrino? (I think Centrino but I'm not sure)
I also review the specs and some laptops have WLAN instead of 802.11b? What are they? Intel wireless card agaisnt Cisco Wifi Card?

At last, if someone knows any internet place to buy a Thinkpad under 2000E (including VAT and transport to Spain) let me know.

I think that´s all.
Hope this is the correct board to post, if not, sorry, I am newbie in this forum.

Thanks.
LuisMi

Hi LuisMi,
Those are Spanish models so you will only will find them on the spanish market.

If you want quality, get a T41/42. These are much better buillt than the R series. Besides, these R models are the worst configured on the series!!!
So, of those models shown, get a T41!

T41 TC12GSP
1.615,00E: 1.5GHz, 32MB, XGA , 256MB, 40GB,CD-RW/DVD, BT
T41 TC12FSP
1.474,50E: 1.4GHz, 32MB, XGA , 256MB, 40GB,CD-RW/DVD, BT

Both T41 are very similar and it looks they only differs on the processor. If that is the case, get the cheaper one. You won't be able to tell appart that 0.1GHz appart!

Regarding the Pentiums; Centrino simply means the computer uses a Pentium M processor AND an Intel Pro/Wireless adapter. Non Centrino units may have any other adapter. Centrino's name may have a better name if you a reselling, but here most agree that the other adapter (IBM) is better.

With 2000 Euros (2400 Dollars), you should be able to do much better. I would get definetly 64MB of RAM and a SXGA+ screen. Then the 40GB it is also small for most people. If you have you have you're own Spanish Windows XP, and willing to install it, go beyond the Spanish market and get the ThinkPad somewhere else, it will be cheeper and/or better. (The US has the best prices!)
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

Thanks to all,

I have now more idea about how to buy a Thinkpad.
I will buy a model from T series.

Morrow, remember that search for a laptop with a spanish keyboard :P we use here the ñ and á é í ó ú letters (for example) also the electric power here is 220V.

The prices from the laptops I wrote in my last post with the prices converted:

R51 UJ032SP1.159,24E 1.430,38USD Pentium Mobile
R40 184C213 1.252,02E 1.545,37USD Pentium Mobile
T41 TC12FSP 1.474,50E 1.819,97USD Centrino
T41 TC12GSP 1.615,00E 1.993,20USD Pentium Mobile

Prices converted using -> http://www.xe.com/ <- great!!! it has a converter.

I think thats all.

Thanks again to all.

In the US, you cannot buy Thinkpads with foreign keyboards, but you can buy the keyboard separetly and installed yourself! It takes just two minutes!
I will be taking to Spain my old A20p and new T42p and buy their internal keyboards there. They are between $45-55!

Finally, all laptops are ready for 220V. You will only need either a cable with the european plug or an adapter. This will cost you there between $3 or $6.

Warranty is international.
