X60 excels X60s in battery life??

#1 Post by madana » Tue Aug 29, 2006 8:10 pm

Greedings,

I tried googling out some reviews of X60 and got interesting results:

http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/x60.ars/4
http://www.itpro.co.uk/wireless/reviews ... d-x60.html
http://business.pcauthority.com.au/revi ... d-x60.aspx
http://www.pcw.co.uk/personal-computer- ... inkpad-x60
http://www.edn.com/index.asp?layout=blo ... 1580003358

and one German blog babelfished for you into English:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfis ... 60-test%2f

While learning something I already knew -- for instance, that X60 predictably outdoes X60s in performance -- one thing came as a surprise for me.

Quite a few reviews reported that their X60 lasted around 10.5 hours on 8-cel battery under light load -- which is exactly one hour LONGER that X60s on a reader test (according to the LaptopLogic review).

This is exactly the opposite to what most users had to say here on X60 vs. X60s battery life. And if this fact is true, it definitely sways me towards X60, despite its extra thickness and weight.

Any comments?
Regards,
Madana

Unless they compare both models side by side, you really can't use them as anything but general ballpark figures for how long the battery might last. Battery life can be pretty variable. I can get 8+ hours on the counter on my X60s with wireless off and doing light word processing, around 7 hours with wireless on and doing moderate web browsing, or 5-6 hours doing hard drive intensive tasks.

Wow, Gunston, could you let me know your specs? Somehow I failed to find your model number in the latest tabook.

Battery lifespans are almost never going to be the same, no matter where you pull them from. There are so many variables that can affect battery life on a Mobile machine than unless you are testing the exact same image and settings on both an X60 and X60s in the same environment, temperature, humidity, etc .. you are going to get different results. The nature of the X60 being a better performer strongly supports the fact that the X60s gets slightly better battery life, at the cost of performance.

my x60s regularly goes past 9 hours. if you dim the screen down just 2-3 bars, it'll go even longer. that's if wifi is off and i'm doing word processing stuff (law student).

Thanks

Thanks everybody for your feedback. I guess reports on X60 longevity on batteries were not exactly slanted, but simply lacked a fair comparison of X60 and X60s side by side.

Special thanks to Archer06 for sharing his results on an impressive statistical cross-section of X60/s.
