Keyboard removal problem

#1 Post by hmphargh » Wed Aug 18, 2004 7:59 pm

Hey guys- I've got a bit of a problem. I'm trying to take my keyboard off to change out my modem daughter card. I looked at the instructions and watched the video. Each says to remove 4 screws with a touchpad/keyboard mark next to it. I can only find 3. I tried removing those and pushing on the keyboard in the top center near the power button (as indicated in the video/instructions), and it doesnt budge, what gives? Am I missing something or is the video wrong or what. someone help me please :-D

Thanks a lot,
John

The 15" has only 3 screws, the 14" has 4.
I just put my finger between the F8 and F9, and push down and towards the back. It barely moves, but it will and the front of the keyboard will raise up slightly.

The hardware manual says to do what Humpa did. I tried that trick between F8 and F9. It *does* work, but I could not feel or see it move. Oh well, keyboard out, Wireless NIC replaced, and on with the show. ... JDHurst

For those with the 15" Thinkpad, have you found any good ways to get the lower edge of the keyboard seated under the palmrest upon installation? I don't like to push down or yank excessively, maybe someone has a slicker method of doing this. It seems this is not really an issue with the 14 inch models, but this is only given what I see in the IBM video. I do wonder if the spacing of the screws were actually lowered a bit towards the palmrests to get the tabs securely under the palmrests, due to the common flexing arrow key issues on the 14 inch models.
