Do some Z60m's come configured with 100GB at 7200 RPM

#1 Post by nocturnal » Thu Aug 31, 2006 2:16 pm

I recently got my Thinkpad Z60m (2529 RCU) from Lenovo. :D

My configuration had the 100GB HDD at 7200 RPM. How can i find this out and is there a noticable difference in the drive running at 7200RPM as compared to 5400RPM.

One final thing. Did your thinkpad (Z Series) come with a 7200 RPM or is it only this particular model (2529 RCU)

Thanks for your replies.

You can get the Hardware Maintenance Manual from here -

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-61364

Looking through the manual, yours does indeed come with the 7200rpm 100GB drive. There are other configurations that have this drive as well.

Mine came with the 5400rpm 100GB drive. :(

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... tabook.pdf
If you open that pdf and do a search in acrobat reader for 2529-rcu you will go right to the appropriate page.
You can see it lists your model as the 100gb drive. Then if you look down in the row underneath that contains the SATA drive info, you see which models have which drives and at which speed. Your model has the 7200rpm.

That page is just for the models that are similar to yours, of course. But every model is in that tabook if you want to look at them all.

I bought the 2531-MTU, which came with the 100gb 5400rpm. The 7200rpm drives are a little quicker/snappier with no (or very little) increase in noise or vibration - they do use more battery, of course (but not too much).

EDIT: hmmm ... I guess I had this page open for a while - I didn't realize someone already responded. :?
