Thinkpad 365 and Win98 = trouble

#1 Post by tghlk » Thu Aug 31, 2006 8:29 pm

FWIW, I actually got Win98 se installed and running on this stupid thing. Only problem is the drive is running in compatibility mode so it's very slow. There's no problems with viruses or IDE controller issues. Anyone ever got it working on this model?

Yes, I haven't had problems with WIN98SE on my 365X, and I've had a few different installs of it over the years (for various reasons) and it's always run fine.

I did have a problem with WIN98SE hanging on shut down, but the last (final) BIOS fixed that... I believe it's version 1.10 ... ???

This compatibility mode issue... what hard drive are you running?
TP360 • TP365x • i1452 • TP T42 • Intellistation Z Pro

Something just occured to me... is your 365 a pre-production unit? I seem to remember a post (by you?) about finding a pre-production 365...??

If it's pre-production, who knows what BIOS, chipset variations, etc., could be on there, compared to a regular production 365... ?? maybe there is some sort of compatility problem, that was fixed when it went into production... ?? ...just a shot in the dark...

No, I am not using my pre-production 365 model. This is just a junky machine I bought for $10 years ago and previously ran OS2 and win 3.1 on it.
