Russian Keyboard in Windows 2000 Pro - How?

#1 Post by DPHMIN » Thu Aug 31, 2006 11:06 pm

I need to install the ability to type in Russian (Cyrillic) on an English version of Windows 2000 Pro on my Thinkpad X23.

In Windows 3.1 on my TP701, I used a program bought in Moscow. On my TP 240's with Win 98, I could do it from within Win98.

I have been able to install the ability to read Cyrillic fonts within Windows 2000, but can find no option to allow me to write in Russian (Cyrillic) with the keyboard.

TIA,

Go to Control Panel \ Keyboard and then to the "Input Locales" tab. You need to "Add..." a locale for Russian there. Then, on the same tab, you may adjust the method to switch between locales (Alt-Shift by default).

The problem I have is that there is no Russian listed in the "Input Locales" tab. Can you tell me where I can find that?

Oh, first of all you need to add a support for Russian in Control Panel\Regional and Language Settings. It will require a reboot.

I thought you already did that since you are able to view text in Russian.

I will not have access to Windows 2000 installation till Monday to give you detailed instructions, but I can asure you that it works: here in Russia we use it in English, non-localized version of Windows 2000.

I did a Google search, and found how to get a Russian keyboard in Windows 2000 without the installation CD. I got it working fine. Now, I just need to find my extra set of Russian alphabet stickers that I put somewhere...
