How do you define "very frequently"? Every 10 seconds? Every 2 minutes? What is your room temperature? Are you sure that the computer is indeed idle and not running any processes in the background? You have to be more specific if you want to know if your notebook's behavior is normal.

Yes, sorry, every 1", the room temperature should be close to 76F, and there are NO process in the background, thanks

Every second?
That really is frequent. At least this is not normal behaviour.

Just for clarification 1" = 1 Minute = 60 Seconds

1" = 1 second; 1' = 1 minute

I've noticed the fan in mine turning on/off about every minute, once the machine has been in use for a while and has warmed up. Doing some web browsing this morning, it took about 40 minutes until I heard the fan come on the first time.

At idle, when the hard drive spins down, I have noticed it completely silent. The fan doesn't seem to keep switching when it's really idling.

I'm quite particular with fan noise (had a terrible time with my R50 and its 5-second Surge of Death) but have no complaints about the X60s. It's likely that other people's machines exhibit the same behaviour but many will tell you that they "never hear the fan" regardless.

Your machine doesn't sound like it has much of a problem to me.

I have been doing some web browsing since this morning and my fan keeps on turning on and off every minute, and when fan is on, it is quite noisy. I wonder if this means I have a defective fan or in this normal for x60? Any kind of fan control program to keep it quiet?
