Does anyone actually likes the Ultranav?

I'd rather have my good-old plain palm rest....

What do you guys think?

I never use the touchpad. TrackPoint is one of the finest, most practical hardware inventions ever, need I say more?

BTW, there are ways that you can remove the newer palm rests and replace with ones that don't have touchpads, etc.

My work machine is a T40, and I have the touchpad turned off. It doesn't bother me.

IBM just had to sell out to the touchpad crowd didn't they?

I like using the touchpad, when the notebook is on a table. If not I prefer the trackpoint.
Lately, I'm getting very annoyed with the trackpoint though. I'll be moving it around for 20 seconds, then let go...and instead of stopping, it will continue moving by itself for 5 seconds! Same when I pause to double-click - I often don't have enough time to click, before it moves past the clickable area by itself :(

You can customize the the touch pad to do other things, as well as launch websites or programs. For eg, those two extra buttons for the touch pad can be used as a shortcut to launch google or other search related websites.

I liked the trackpoint so much I bought an IBM USB Keyboard with UltraNav for my stationary PC. This keyboard won some CeBIT design award. I have also got an "mousearm" and I think the use of the "trackpoint" instead helps.... The touchpad have i disabled, never use it.

one of the first things i did after opening up the package was to see if the touchpad could be disabled... yeah it could... never touched the settings again... :)

can you tell me more about that keyboard? sometimes when i'm using a desktop computer i find myself looking for an imaginary trackpoint... funny it's never there... :)

touchpad was demanded by the big business customers..

i don't care for it either and i replaced the palmrest on my T41p when i had that machine..

i have two of the keyboards referenced above.. the larger one with the numeric pad..

i don't ose the touchpad and if i can justify the smaller keyboard when available i'll get somje of those..

i have some of the non-touchpad palmrests for T40 series available but i pay retail and so my price is higher but my shipping is lower..

BUT, for home use for long periods of time I run the optical mouse.
