Lenovo's Return Policy 21 or 30 days?
According to the Return Policy that was pointed out to me, apparently, Lenovo only accepts returns for unopened items and within 21 days. Is this the case with every Thinkpad?

If you can only return if unopened... I don't see any benefit from ordering directly from Lenovo anymore unless they have a special that is lower than all of the online stores. Especially since there is usually no tax at the online stores.

Precisely! There is no longer any reason, or advantage, to buy direct.tselling wrote:If you can only return if unopened... I just got off the phone with them (Lenovo) and they are sticking to the new online policy. Must be returned unopened. This is what is included in the document being shipped with the new computers now. They say the old document was sent "in error" in the package with some of the units and those owners will be recieving the "correct" terms and condition documents.
I know someone who ordered one of the "special offer ThinkPads" from Lenovo over 9 weeks ago and is still waiting for it to be shipped.
Another very big advantage of purchasing from an online reseller is that in most cases they have a much better inventory of models at discounted prices. And as you have noted, there is no sales tax with most of them.
I ordered a ThinkPad from Euclid Computers last Wednesday and received it on Thursday. New in the sealed box, how can you beat that! Plus no sales tax, no hassle, no waiting.

Personally, I've been very satisfied with Lenovo's customer service vs. other online retailers.
Being assigned a personal rep by Lenovo is pretty big in my book. While their distribution efficiency needs some improvement, I like buying directly from the manufacturer whenever possible.
But again, it's personal preference.

I have been a happy, loyal IBM ThinkPad Corporate Business customer for over a decade, with purchases numbering in the hundreds. I too prefer dealing directly with the manufacturer.u2wedge wrote:Personally, I've been very satisfied with Lenovo's customer service vs. other online retailers.

Then Lenovo entered the picture. Please understand that this is not Lenovo trashing, just an honest report of my experiences.
I have had not one or two, but three different "Business Reps" assigned to take care of my account. Without going into the gory details, suffice to say that they have made numerous mistakes, while I have been patient and open minded, giving them every opportunity to "sort things out". Yet they simply do not seem to be very motivated to get back on track. A lot of "Talk" very little geniune action.
It is out of necessity that I have begun purchasing from resellers. As I remain satisfied and committed to the ThinkPad brand. Hofefully going forward, at some point they will get focused on providing the kind of service that we formerly enjoyed with IBM.

I wish Bill would be able to customize thinkpads for us. But it seems like t he only place to get the thinkpad i really want is from their website. I guess i have no choice but to take my chances.archer6 wrote:That is correct....mattbiernat wrote: so that means if i get a computer with 2 dead pixels and i want to return it im out of luck?

What model and configuration are you looking for?
15inch SXGA+
128 video
lowest possible RAM (since will get it way cheaper later on)
lowest possible HD (I really don't use a lot of space)
must be 2ghz
right now lenovo offers $1200 for machine like that - this is the lowest price i've seen so i might not have much choice but to get it from them. im on a really tight budget and euclid simply is too epansive. now how do i deal with the devil?
I need the model number and then I will do some quick research.mattbiernat wrote:R60archer6 wrote: There is always another way,

Are you absolutely steadfast in having to have a 2GHz chip
Give me a price range that you want to stay within.

the cheapest price i found was from lenovo website for $1217.50 and adding tax will make it just about $1300. im a student so i go for the cheapest price and the best specs. that's why R series appealed to me so much.
One final question, what are you using it for. What programs will you be running on your computer?mattbiernat wrote: yeah i like to have a nice round number (2ghz). but that's just me.

pretty much most of the day and evening (when i study and im at school) i will be running word (or open office), internet explorer, powerpoint or equivalent, some form of linux, and later at night probably either watch DVDs or do some gaming (im not a serious gamer -- no time for it but 128mb video and 2ghz will really help).archer6 wrote:One final question, what are you using it for. R serie doesn't get talk enough on this forum, so it was a pleasant surprise that you say you want a R60.
I used to own a R40 and had been happy with it. In my mind, the construction of R serie is just as robust as the T serie, sometimes sturdier too.
Anyway, the only thing you probably need to watch out for is probably the weight, it is heavy to carry around especially with a laptop bag and textbook, but if you plan to let it sit on your desk most of the time, the R serie is hard to beat.

2 pixels isn't covered by the warranty anyway (there is a list that shows what IBM/Lenovo consider defective on top of the LCD ISO standard); although, true, you could have sent it back under the old policy for another one.mattbiernat wrote: so that means if i get a computer with 2 dead pixels and i want to return it im out of luck?
I have yet to see an R60 in person, but I am sure it will be a great notebook as the T60 already is.

Keep in mind that they have to be in a cluster around the original dead pixel as well and according to IBM/Lenovo's interpretation of the ISO 13406-2 norm on this page as well as either uniformly bright or uniformly dark.

Wow. Lenovo's policy is not even a policy. It basically means NO RETURNS.
21 days and unopened plus "Shipping and handling charges generally will not be refunded or credited. Products returned may be subject to a restocking fee equal to 15% of the price paid. You agree to pay the restocking fee as Lenovo specifies."
This must be taken into account when buying direct!
Of course, if you use a credit card, they can help, but this is not exactly hassle free. I guess Lenovo wants to actually make money on computer sales...unlike IBM!
Bad for customer, good for company.

Having been burnt by bad pixels before, this basically means that I will not be buying ANY notebooks from Lenovo anytime soon. I'm not going to give them $, only to be sent up a creek if something goes wrong.
I guess I'll look around fleabay for used ThinkPad once I get some cash. I always wanted an X31.
