A22m DVD ROM/WIN XP problem

#1 Post by AlanB » Mon Sep 04, 2006 3:28 pm

Hello,
This is my first visit, thanks in advance for any help I might find here.

I have an A22m 2628 Thinkpad that I bought from a family member. A few weeks ago the hard drive went bad and had to be replaced. I purchased a new drive, and installed Windows XP Home SP2, with no complications.

Until I tried to run a DVD in the CD/DVD ROM drive. The drive will read CD's but not DVD's. I contacted IBM support and I was told that the A22m Thinkpad was set up for the Windows 2000 OS and that the drive may not be able to read DVD's running Windows XP.

I was told I could try to install the Thinkpad DVD driver, so I went on the IBM site to get the DVD rom driver and installed it, but that did not help either.

Is there any way to get this Thinkpad to recognize and play DVD's without going out and picking up Windows 2000?

Thanks,
Alan
