T42 - any programmers with slow performance?

#1 Post by vijeshmehta » Thu Aug 19, 2004 3:45 pm

I posted this earlier, but probably on a thread with a different purpose. My problem is that I use Netbeans to program JAVA - unfortunately my new T42 is EXTREMELY slow when I use it - it takes 2 seconds to scroll up and down a page.

It works perfectly if the laptop is plugged in.

I use High System Performance configuration for the Battery. All other applications seem to run fine - I use Visual Studio, and that runs good.

I don't understand what it could be. I've updated the battery maximizer application and the Video card drivers. The rest is pretty much factory settings.

Any solutions or people with similar problems?

I have not experienced your problem but one thing you could try is to click on the battery meter on the taskbar and uncheck "Graphic Device Power Management."

That is one of the performance settings that isn't controllable through the Power Scheme settings.

Maybe you are scrolling slowly due to the slow speed of your GPU while on battery.

That seemed like it was the problem. The GPU must have been down to a crawl. Simple things like moving the window would take like 10 seconds to refresh the window.

Thanks.
