Region Code of DVD drive

#1 Post by johnsss » Tue Sep 05, 2006 12:32 am

I have a question regarding the ultrabase X6 that comes with the DVD-ROM/CDRW- attached. There is a selection for the DVD region code for the DVD drive, and up to 5 ammendments on the region code can be made only. So, my question is can we stick to the default, i.e. no selected region? Or, should we change it to the region of our stay. I'm located in Singapore.

best option would be to leave it like this, es if you live there.

honeslty i dont understand the purpose of this region settings (esp when you travel) but the bad think is that if you change it more than 4 times (if you put dvd from around the world) than the dvd unit will be locked on that region.

BUT there are ways around:

1. reflashing the firmware when it became locked
2. reflashing with a hacked firmware
3. buying programs which override the region settings (ie. region master, css lite... -google: dvd region unlocker)

have a nice day,

Thanks, Dorin...

I haven't tried playing with any or different region code DVDs yet, as I haven't got a DVD player software (if that is what it is called) to do so. Again, thanks for your advice...

Cheers,
John

VLC will play any dvd from any region

Or install AnyDVD and it will remove those stupid region locks, as well as CSS protection

You can look for your drive region-free firmware and process descripton at this link:

after having read their disclaimer first.

However, I successfully made quite a few region-free DVD drives with their help. I hope this will help you too.

but be aware that flashing with a hacked firmware will void any warranty you might have!

best thing will be to copy (i think its called dumping or so) your firmware you have now, save it as a backup and then rewrite it when locked.

that if you want to play the hard game!

safer use those programs i and the others said will unlock the region protection. i use dvd region master.

you have 2 options, so chose wisely!

Thanks alot for your advice, guys...

As I have a 3-yr warranty for my unit, I probably don't want to tamper with some unreliable firmware and caused warranty void.

I'll go through your suggestions and make a safe choice.

Cheers,
John
