Vista Drivers for T43P

#1 Post by Andreab67 » Tue Sep 05, 2006 9:21 am

Hi,
thi is my first time in this forum
I'm an happy owner of a T43P.
I really love the notebook, very reliable and fast.
I bought it to use it with Vista. I'm one of the Beta Tester, one of the Technical Group that is reporting defects and finding bugs while the product is released.
I'm looking for Vista Drivers for the ThinkPad T43P.
As usual when the OS gets close to release Microsoft starts dropping to the manifacturer the hard work to come out with drivers for it.
They used to provide complete support through Vista Ultimate Updates for the product till Beta 2.
Now with RC1 they don't.
Specifically there is no Audio, Power and Fingerprint Reader support for my wonderful ThinkPad.
I was wondering if any of you guys know where and when Lenovo will provide this support and or if they need beta testers...
I use the notebook every day at least for 12 hours....

Thanks

Andrea

Hi Andrea,

I'm using the XP drivers for my T43 without any problem for Audio, Power Management and Winbond Trusted Platform Module. These devices were not recognised and installed automatically by Vista.
Instead of starting the "setup.exe", you have to show the drivers directory manually for Vista. You can do the same for Biometric Coprocessor from Program Files/Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software/Drivers.

It worked for me.

Good hint...
problem solved...
Even the HotKey work...

You can install the drivers in the IBM web site... including hotkey support and IBM thinkPad Configuration Utility..

Windows XP Version it is...

Nice..

Works perfectly so far...

Hi,
I also installed the RC1 on my T43p and I use the Vista Beta Drivers provided by IBM/Lenovo. Currently I try to get the fingerprint reader useable. The IBM/Lenovo website states the driver to be obtainable by Windows update, well in fact RC1 installed the driver. But, even with the driver installed and the device listed operating in the device manager, I do not get the fingerprint reader to be useable. Do I need (as in XP) the Thinkvantage fingerprint software, which operates the device, is there a Vista version (or does the XP version works) or has Vista built in support for fingerprint logon?
Thanks, Carlhermann

Not that I know about

Hi Carl,
having the Finger Print Driver working requires indept intercaction with teh security subsystem, namely the Windows GINA Module.
In Vista the GINA has changed dramatically, I don't think that the old Fingerprint Drivers would work.
I did not spend too much time on them...
I will be installing the new Vista Build post RC1 Windows Vista (v5728-16387) today and I will let you know if there are any improvements....

Microsoft has put back in AutoUpdate the Drivers

#9 Post by Andreab67 » Sat Sep 23, 2006 4:39 pm

Windows Vista Build 5728 -

ThinkPad T43

Not bad after all

Microsoft provides drivers for all except the TPM Driver.

I opened a bug with them before RC1 and has been closed as Third Party. They complained about the TPM being outdated (1.1 is not good enough they said)....

I installed the TPM Driver Provided by IBM.

BIOS is updated to the latest.

I also installed the following from IBM WinXP Drivers:

Configuration Utility
HotKey
Keyboard
Monitor

Lastly I like to use teh Hard Disk Protection even if Vista is complaining about it not activating it by default so I installed

Active Protection System - HD

That's about it...

Do not install the Microsoft Drivers for the Wireless Adapter, it is an optional update and does not perform very good.
I rolled back the driver...

That's all for now...

Nice build, it is fast....

Regards

Andrea
