t30 processor upgrade

#1 Post by ujav » Wed Sep 06, 2006 9:21 am

I have a t30 with 1.6G p4m, and now have an proposition to buy 2.2G.

What is the average current price on those CPU's?
Is it easy to change processor by myself?
Will be it more hot and noisy? Is it enough to use ordinary thermo-paste, or shall I look for something like "Arctic"?
Will be there noticeable performance gain with 5400rpm hdd and 512mem?
What is the scale of CPU speed comparing with P-M?

While this is specifically for the A31P, the T30 is very similar and the instructions can be viewed as relatively generic.

Maxing the RAM (2GB) and upgrading to a 7200RPM HD will show a significant speed increase in the T30 even without a CPU upgrade.

Thank you for the link,
glad to see it's not so complicated.

Of course, I plan to upgrade a memory, but since there are "broken slot" problem, only 1G is available.
HD too, but my is in excellent condition and very quiet.
The price is counts, too - changing HD will cost about 90$, memory - about 70$, processor upgrade is cheaper I guess..

And what about noise? Now it have a 900Mhz idle frequency, it will raise in 2.2 p4m? - so raises temperature?
In 100% CPU load it have a fan working 100% of time(not in max speed, though), I hope there won't be any difference.

Again - what about comparsion with speed of modern P-M CPU's?

They say that P-M 1.6Ghz is around the speed of P4-M 2.4Ghz.

So, 2.2 P4M will be around 1.4-1.5 PM..

So, what about the temperature?

Will 2.2 be noticeable hotter than 1.6 - in idle state and under heavy load?

Thanks for participation. :P

I've changeg CPU, just following Maitenance Guide.
Btw, why it demands on HDD, memory, small battery removing, etc.? As I see, main battery and keyboard is enough.

Now everything fine with me.. except one thing.
When I tried to run benchmark on new CPU, it shows that it slower than before.
Guess what? 1.2Ghz regarless on BIOS and OS power settings in all combinations.
Only thing that helps is battery - when it inserted, I have full 2.2Ghz. But I don't want to have battery all the time in!
