HELP lost harddrive password

reloaded from a recovery disk and must have not turned off the harddrive password ... when I boot i am asked for the finger, it is accepted then I get a cone shape image with a 1 above it and a locked sign fo the password ... cannot get into the bios

all help and suggestions are welcome.

It is difficult (very - to the point of nearly impossible) to access a hard drive that is password protected where you don't know the password. If anyone tells you it is easy, have them recover it straightaway. ... JD Hurst

o.k. I am @%$#^@& ... I took the harddrive out and it booted off a bootable cd with linux... and I can enter the bios then ... so it is the hardrive password ...

do I need a Thinkpad HD or can I get one at Futureshop

You need a 2.5" SATA hard drive. Make sure it's Serial-ATA. Hitachi and Seagate have most of the market right now. Hitachi Travelstar drives are shipped stock in the T60 line. Buy a 7200RPM drive if you can for the best performance.
