Z vs. T

#1 Post by vinny77 » Thu Sep 07, 2006 11:07 am

I am looking for a new laptop, and am on a budget,

But what is the difference between the Z and The T series. The Z series looks much cheaper in price with pretty much the same price specs.

I have both and find the Z series to be a very fine computer. It has the same quality components as the more expensive T. The major difference is the case material which is ABS plastic for the Z model. Yet, it's a heavy durable and quite rigid plastic. Very scratch resistant and the display comes with the same robust metal hinges, fine keyboard, and bright clear display as the T models. I would highly suggest the Z series. Especially now since there are a lot of discounts out there. I would try Euclid Computers, as they have a good inventory, are Lenovo authorized, and discounted prices with no sales tax. I have have purchased from them with excellent results. Euclid Computers

Z series is more multimedia based than the T series. Meaning that they have the widescreen display, the multimedia ports such as s-video out and memory card readers built in. T-series is purely for business machines. This doesn't mean they can't game or do multimedia, they focus on features that business users would find useful. For example, T-series are generally thinner and lighter than the Z-series model of the same size. They also have features like a magnesium alloy lid and a titanium roll cage for structural strength. (Z-series may have the roll cage, I don't know). Outside of that, however they are generally pretty equivalent. You can get comparable processors/GPU's for each series of laptop. I personally prefer the T-series because I find standard aspect ratios with higher resolutions are more useful than widescreen aspect ratios and prefer thinner smaller constructions. It all comes down to your personal preference. If you get a quality model of either series with the hardware specs that you require you won't be disappointed; the high quality that thinkpads are known for will be present in both.
