Will the ThinkPad Zip 250MB Ultrabay 2000 drive work w/ R50p

#1 Post by Matt_ » Thu Aug 19, 2004 10:09 pm

Will the IBM ThinkPad Zip 250MB Ultrabay 2000 drive work in the R50p model 183222U ?

It's listed here, but after reading these two documents, I can't tell if it'll work in my family's R50p.

Plus, the other thing that I wasn't sure about is that I had seen a picture elsewhere on ibm's website that showed a picture of u-shaped zip disk for this drive which is different than the square-shaped zip disks that my family uses for the desktop computer.

Thank you in advance for your help

I believe it should ( I think R50s take both Ultrabay 2000 and Ultrabay Plus device) but I am not sure. The discs you are referring to are 250MB discs, so if your family use 100MB discs (the square ones) these might look different.

The R50(P) cannot use Ultrabay 2000 devices - only "Ultrabay Enhanced".

Sorry.. it wont work

Thank you both for your replies. It's another family member who is the regular Zip disk user (100mb zip disks on his desktop computer). At the time of the R50p purchase, he also bought through IBM the USB 750mb zip drive. He says that he soon found out that what he didn't realize is that, while the usb 750mb zip drive will read his 100mb zip disks, it won't write to them.
So, in assuming that the 250mb zip ultrabay2000 drive would read *and* write to his remaining 100mb disks, that was one reason I was interested in it. The other was the fact that it is $30 off right now.
Thanks again
