Reviving a dead TP40p?
Reviving a dead TP40p?
I have a T40p (2373 G3U) that appears to be dead. It was sitting for a day on my desk with a discharged battery and now it won’t do anything. I plugged the power adapter, of course.
I’d press the power button, the fan would go on, the green light (on indicator) would light up, but the computer is dead, nothing on the screen.
It’s out of warranty so I’m reluctant to send it to IBM/Lenovo and get a handsome bill. Is there anything I could do to try to revive this darn thingy?

Yes, I have tried the AC and all the possible combinations – AC only, AC + battery, battery only, different battery, recharge the battery, etc, etc – nothing worked.
I’ve tried connecting the monitor as well, no luck.
If this were a desktop, I’d try clearing the CMOS. Is there a way to do that on a Thinkpad?

OMG!!!
Yeah, I’ve tried pressing the power key 10 times then holding it. No luck.
So my Thinkpad has been sitting for the last few days unused and unplugged.
This morning for some reason I though, let me give it another try. I pressed the power button and the green light flashed and nothing. Pressed it again and the obstinate thing came to life!!!
Wow!
Thank you all for advices!

Occasionally it has been reported that the display switch that makes contact when you close the display can get stuck, or not make proper contact. The next time you have this problem, try depressing and releasing the switch button a few times, then see if it will power on. The button is above the keyboard near the left hinge.
Also listen for any beeps. There is a beep code that can help you troubleshoot problems.
