Yea, you might loose some of the included apps, but you can get most of what you need from lenovo.com. I dont know if you are getting a new hard drive anyway, but it looked like you were getting just for the reinstall; you dont have to. You can just format yours.

yea, mine came with a 40 gig 5400 HD, of that which only 23 gigs was free.....so i was looking into gettinga 7200 rpm HD while im at it....but i've read that they can get quite loud and generate a good amount of heat...dunno if this is true...i mean it makes sense but is it bad enough to not get a 7200...ever??

If you really need the extra hard drive speed, then go for it. You really wont notice much of a difference outside of games though. I have never owned a 7200 notebook drive, so i cant say from experience, but i have heard that they are hotter and reduce your battery life. Unless you really need it, id go for a 5400.

You can use TaskMngr to identify the running processes and use Google to check what they do. Some certainly correspond to bloatware like Diskeeper Lite that Lenovo bundled. There also is Google desktop and Picassa. You can use or MSCONFIG.exe to eliminate startup programs and processes.

I do like the Lenovo wireless tools, battery manager and some other utilities.

Good luck
