Delivery Date Changed from 8/28/04 to 9/15/04!

After doing a ton of research both here on this forum and other places, I decided to buy a T42 with Flexview. I got the 2373-3XU for $1,840. Originally, the order status page said 8/28/04, but this morning it changed to 9/15/04! What the heck? I know I got a great deal, and I don't REALLY mind waiting, but I hope it doesn't take THAT long. BTW: I ordered on 8/11/04. Is this typical?

I just checked the status on my order. I ordered a 2379DXU back on Aug 11th. I called IBM and they told me it was on a 3 week backorder, plus it will take another week after that to build. I'm looking at another 3 weeks for this thing to ship. You aren't the only one who has been pushed out... wish I had known about this site before I bought from IBM.

My order was also delayed from 8/30/04 to 9/15/04. I spoke to my sales rep and he imformed me that there is a two week wait for the notebook p/n: 23733XU EDU T42 INTEL PENTIUM M 1.7 2M. I was thinking about switching to another notebook but with the saving I just decided to wait.

Me too. Have to wait till 9/15 for my DXU to ship.
PCWorld rated the t42 and r51 as the best all purpose
laptops. That must have driven demand over the top.
Good for MyBM bad for Me.

I had a 23733XU ordered 8/8/04 and it's in a shipment coming from China as we speak (it's in Louisville, KY right now). So your's might be next!

I ordered the 2373-3XU on 8/3/04 from the Ohio educational discount page for $1748 (no, I'm not an Ohio student, but they never asked for verification), and it was supposed to ship on 8/6/04, but it got pushed back to 8/15/04 and then to 9/11/04, but it actually got shipped out on 8/19 and sitting in KY right now. I think yours should ship out sooner than the expected date. Good luck with that!

My order shipped on 8/23/04! I should have it before the original expected date.

I got a tracking number, but on the UPS site the service type says: EXPRESS DELIVERY CONF.

Anyone know what that means? The detail link doesn't give the usual details on shipment tracking.

Give it until later tonight to get updated in UPS's website. It's coming form HK so it might not show up until it's in the states.

I ordered 2379DXU on 8/13. A week ago shipping date was estimated around 9/14. Then 9/15. Then pushed back until 9/17. Today I found that the shipping date was pushed until 9/20. I think it is growing exponentially with time.

We must be on the same shipment. Mine was shipped out on 8/23/04. My customer page the tracking link does not work so I'm hoping to receive my notebook by this week but if not I'll call my rep about this.

Good to see that IBM over guesses their shipping times!

Hong Kong is 12 hours ahead of us, so that would mean that it has been "picked up" for almost 36 hours. Does it usually do this? Will the next scan not be until it gets to a distribution center in the states?

It arrived! It got to my house before noon today, and I am posting from it right now. The screen is beautiful! I am downloading the new HD Movie Demos from Microsoft right now to see how the screen performs for REALLY high res applications. If you haven't seen them yet...

Anyways, everything seems to be in good working order. I thought I saw a "dead" pixel because one looked black, but it refreshed after the next screen and I haven't seen it since. The keyboard feels great. I don't even care to know which one I have. The location of the Ctrl and Fn keys on the left side is a bit different than my Sony VAIO, and I hit the eraser head a few times while I have been typing. I'm sure I will adjust fine though. I'm glad I waited and made the decision to go with IBM. I'll be sure to post any other observations.

Good news!

My package is delayed in Canada for customs, along with 60 other Thinkpads. Guess the whole IBM shipment was tagged by the FDA. D'Oh!

Should be here by Monday!

I ordered my 2378dxu on 8/29 (availability 2-4 weeks). Received ship date of 9/21. Then the ship date changed in lower left hand corner every day until it reached 10/14. I called and was told they expected it 9/21 with 2-3 days to add Word and then it would ship to me. Received E-mail last night that it was shipping. Status now is:

Well, after watching my ship date fluctuate between 21 September and 14 October, I received notification today (16 Sept) that my computer has shipped on 2-day UPS, so I expect a Monday arrival. So all is forgiven in terms of stress over shipping delays, assuming it arrives on the expected day.

Checked status at 9:24 a.m. and it said "out for delivery" at 9:07 a.m.
At 9:25 a.m. it was delivered. No dead pixels and it looks great! Will have a fun weekend playing.

You will get an E-mail stating that your Thinkpad has shipped with a link to your order status page. A new link will show up on your order status page that takes you to UPS tracking. When you click on "details" it will show the progress of your shipment. This info will show up the morning after your receive the E-mail notification. It's hard to wait once you've made up your mind and placed the order!
