SD Reader Problems

#1 Post by riemann » Sat Sep 09, 2006 10:43 am

Has anyone had any difficulty getting their SD card reader to work on their X60s?

When I insert my card, the indicator light turns on. Windows does not see the card/drive. When I eject the card, the indicator light stays on and does not turn off until I shut down my machine.

It is worth noting that the "SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller" has been added to the device manager and appears to be working.

Does this sound like a hardward malfunction?

Have you tried more than one SD card?

I actually have yet to try a different SD card. Primarily, because I only have one :)

Hopefully I can snag one from a coworker tomorrow to see if that does the trick.

I use my current SD card in my Treo and it works --- so I presume that my SD reader is just bunk in my X60s --- but I hope that it is just that it cant read "this" card!

It does sound like you have a bad reader if it works in your Treo. I too have a Treo and have used it im my laptop. I have also used my daughter's SD card from her camera and it works fine too.

Do you have a warranty on your laptop? I made sure I purchased a 3 year accidental coverage and it has payed for itself already.

I have had 2 keyboards replaced, an ultrabay battery, and an ultrabay. But I am happy as a clam. If you have a good warranty, I would just have them come out and replace whatever is faulty.

Let me know what happens?

Hi Kim,

What were the problems with your keyboards and ultrabay?

I found mine sometimes doesn't register when I put a card in. So I remove it and slowly reinsert it and then it registers. I also found that I had to reformat my 4gb SD cards before the X60s card reader recognized it was formatted. For some reason when formatted in my Canon SD700is, it says not formatted in the X60s.... but my SIG 11-in-1 express card reader reads it fine in my T60p. Luckily the camera is ok with the card formatted in the x60s.

When I first received the laptop the media bay battery would not fit, the drive was almost impossible to remove, and they shipped me a new battery and an Ultrabay. Problem solved.

The keyboard was an issue that I caused. I spilled a small amount of lime juice, (less than a drop) on my backspace key. It worked fine but would make a small noise the 1st time I used it each day. It would then work but feel spongy. I called and had them come out and replace the keyboard. The technician admitted that he had never worked on an X60s yet. He wasn't quite sure what screws to remove to get at the keyboard.

He finally got it removed and all seemed well until 1 day when I picked up my laptop and it snagged my sock. On the right side near the IR port part of the plastic around the IR port was broken. I called and they came out and replaced it again.

I am very happy with this laptop and I have a floppy drive on order and a WaterField sleeve coming for my Bithday on the 19th of this month. :)
