T60p suggestion/comment needed

#1 Post by davidlg16 » Sat Sep 09, 2006 6:51 pm

Hello Gurus,

I'm customizing a T60p,

with everything else customized the same, should I get a 2.33Ghz w/128mb X1400 OR a 2Ghz w/256 GireGL 5200?

Assuming the price will come out the same.

I would be using this laptop for web designing as well as occasional gaming.

Thanks in advance

As always, it depends:

If you play from time to time, then take the better Graphics.

Actually for day to day work, you will feel no difference whatsoever with 2,33 against 2GHz. It only counts when you do some number crunching or similar stuff in memory. Rather add 2Gig of memory.

the difference is so small between processor speeds i think you would get more life out of the laptop with more video memory than slightly more processor power. I agreee if you don't do gaming it is a no brainer but that is just my take. I have the t60p 2.13 with 256mb video. Its very nice and def. worth it.

By all means, get the 5200. You will probably never be able to "feel" the difference between 2.13GHz and 2.0 GHz, but you will benefit greatly with the 5200, especially if you plan on upgrading to Windows Vista when it's released.

couple more questions:

could someone please tell me what's going on with Vista, 64-bit computing, core 2 duo?

I searched on Google and kind of get the idea that Vista is 64-bit? Core Duo does not do 64-bit? Core 2 Duo does?

If I were to keep this machine for the next 3 years and very eager to upgrade to Vista, should I wait for Core 2?

I just dont want to end up with a machine that can't run the most resouce intensive Vista (Ultimate?)

Thanks for all your comments!! especially on a Saturday night
