Remove WinXP/Pentium M sticker adhesive

#1 Post by WilsonF » Fri Aug 20, 2004 11:21 am

I pulled off the Intel and MS stickers on my T42p. How do I remove the adhesive residue? It seems impervious to isopropyl alcohol and to a tiny bit of WD40. Any ideas?

There are also several adhesive remover products on the markey. I work at a hospital so I just used some adhesive remover pads that are used when cleaning up the adhesive from bandages.

You should also be able to find a product called Goo Gone at most pharmacys, hardware stores and places like walmart. Goo Gone is citrus based so it probably won't hurt the plastic.

Before you buy anything, try some vegetable oil (the stuff that's used for cooking.) Apply some and let it sit for a few minutes. That will soften the glue and you'll be able to wipe everything off. Just be careful not to get the stuff into the keyboard or other innards.

Amazingly, as sticky as the adhesive is, I got it to come off very readily by just dabbing it up with the sticky side of Scotch tape!

I took mine off as soon as I was sure I didn't need to return the laptop. I felt no need to provide free advertising space for Intel or Microsoft. Besides that, the stickers were interfering with the black slab theme the thinkpad has going for it!

Just use the stickers themselves/scotch tape, as said, to tap the adhesive away. No need for anything fancy. Just like removing those blue tac marks on the wall/whatever with a bigger ball of blue tac.
