Issues: Windows Vista RC1 (5600) on T42p?

#1 Post by Kenn » Sun Sep 10, 2006 1:47 am

Wondering if anyone else running a similar config could give me a hand with this?

With both Pre-RC1 (5536?) and RC1 (5600), Vista won't turn off my LCD display after a set number of minutes after I set it in the Power Options control panel (the IBM Power Manager no longer works). The display will go black, but I can see that the backlight remains on, which is what I'm mostly concerned about. This happens on both AC and battery.

Also, I just ordered a Dell 2407FPW, and was wondering if Vista's display drivers for the FireGL T2 will support 1900x1200 through DVI (port replicator). I assume the Omega drivers under XP won't work with Vista.

Thanks!

The first problem sounds like the power management drivers for the LCD and the API for their timers that come with the IBM power manager don't work on Vista (which isn't too suprising, but annoying). I assume this is through the default CPL provided through Vista and not the power manager? :|

As for the Vista drivers pushing the 2407FPW @ 1900x1200, it should work. At least, I can't think of a sane reason for it not to...then again, Vista doesn't have to be sane when dealing with drivers now does it? ;) :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm wondering about the 1900x1200 because ATI's standard drivers for the T42 have always been limited the DVI output to a max of 1280x1024, even though the hardware supports higher resolutions (and hacked drivers have unlocked them). I'm not yet sure why Vista would be any smarter ;)

I got the IBM Power Manager drivers working again (superficially). The problem is settings don't stick after you hit Apply or OK , so I think you're right - Vista's drivers don't yet support the thinkpad hardware, so the OS's default tools don't work, nor can the IBM drivers successfully hook into the OS. Oh well, hopefully that gets resolved by release.

Go bears!
