I was wondering if both E7K100 and 7K100 is encrypted ?

Eg. compatible with the on-board security chip on IBM's, like the X32 ?

Nice thought, but I wouldn't use it. If anything goes wrong with the laptop, you will have a tough time getting the data back. Our IT group decided to remove the encryption after a few incident of hardware failure.

Hitachi's Bulk Data Encryption (BDE) feature didn't come until 7K200 IIRC.

Besides, only certain drives support it.
