My baby is running a temperature....

#1 Post by LizZ60t » Sun Sep 10, 2006 7:17 pm

My z60t has been constantly hot on the bottom front area (below the touchpad and trackpoint regions). The battery area is perfectly cool. Also, the fan runs constantly at high speed.

I've been getting the following 'message center' warnings for 3 months now:

"Battery error is detected- the battery is too hot. Remove it from the computer and cool it to room temperature."

and also....

"Irreparable damage to the battery has been detected. Replace the battery with a new one."

I called IBM when I got the first error message in June. They sent me a new battery. Unfortunately, the error messages haven't stopped arriving and I know the heat issue is not normal!

Can anyone suggest what may be wrong? Maybe there is a software issue?? Hopefully?? I'm trying to avoid sending it in for service, I've got the thinkplus protection, but i really don't want to be with out my baby for a few days.

Thanks in advance
Lizz =)

It is getting hot directly under the touchpad? More to the left or the right?

When it is hot, I would take off the palmrest and see exactly what is heating up.

The backup battery is right there under the touchpad.
Here is the maintenance manual, if you don't already have it:

I had exactly the same error messages a while ago but there was absolutely nothing wrong with the battery (wear level 0%) and the temperature was normal too. It might be a software issue - who knows. Since then, I didn't have any problems at all.

You might want to run a program that monitors your temperature and battery so you know exactly what's going on. A pretty good one is Notebook Hardware Control at http://www.pbus-167.com/

Had the irreperable damage message as well, more like 8 of them, called Lenovo and they didnt really say much. Altough the message is a pretty serious warning, I cant find anything to explain it.

Humpa-

Yes it is directly under the touch pad/spacebar/trackpoint region. Not more to L/R.

I'm not a bit hesitant to open it up myself!
Guess I'm going to have to call in the Pro's.

Thanks =)
