Cheap A20m Speaker Replacement?

#1 Post by Waukeen » Mon Sep 11, 2006 9:17 pm

Hi all. "First time caller long time listener"

I recently recieved a A20m laptop from a friend. He stated that he did not use it in about a year since he got his work laptop and he would like to see if I could get it working again.

The main problem was it would intermittently (sp.) reboot. I told him I could take a look at it and see what I could do. After reading these forums for other's experiences in this i decided to reseat the memory. After I did that the problem seemed to go away so i figure it is working. I reloaded Win XP on the thing and gave it back to him.

I told him the left speaker dosn't function. I also recomended maxing out the memory for 100 bucks and would be pretty decent for general every-day computing (Word, Excel, Email, pr0n...).

He didn't want to put out the 100 dollars on it so he gifted it to me for the well-done job on it.

Long story short I am now a ThinkPad owner and wondering where i can find replacement speakers to fit. What diameter and depth would I be looking for?

I got the instruction booklet for taking the thing apart, but I am worried that It will be too much of a puzzle to put together, should I decide to check out to see if the speaker is just disconnected from the board?

Thanks all.

I will have to dismantle the device this weekend to see if that is what happend to the speaker. It would be nice if it is that easy.

Since i got my wireless antennas of ebay i took the a20m apart and installed the antennas in the screen (although not in front of the shielding as i originally hoped (very strong glue between shell and shielding).

While i was in there i noticed that one of the wires to the left speaker was cracked and i was able to re-crimp the end on it and stick it back into its jack.

Now i have a wireless ready laptop with perfect working speakers.

I can't wait to get a mini-pci card to try out in it. =D

I will post details (i got photos) of my work inside the laptop later. ^_^
