Free background check on your car

#1 Post by semaj » Tue Sep 12, 2006 12:03 am

A few days ago I bid on a car on eBay. I lost but was sent a second chance ebay offer. It turns out the guy was a fraud and didn't actually have a car to sell me but i did sign up for one of those unlimited for the month carfax reports before i found out. Although it sucks that the car was a fraud i still have the unlimited carfax reports. If anyone would like me to run a vin check on post when they say feel free to do so. I want to get every dollar i paid for on this unlimited for the month car fax reporting.

semaj

Just post the vin and i will copy and paste what it gives me(or I can pm or email if requested different)

I don't know what you mean "the car was a fraud."

However, there are still many states in which the title does NOT document serious wrecks or rebuilds, and all someone has to do, is to transfer the car through one of those states to get a "clean" title.

In some cases, this is not bad. Many people have some belief that just because a car was wrecked, it can never be fixed. I've seen some amazing stuff come from a former friend of mine, who's retired from a long career owning a body shop. He used to buy "totals" from the insurance co. rebuild them, drive them for a year or two, and sell them. There was NOTHING wrong with the cars he rebuilt. All were much better than the typical "car lot" item insofar as mechanical and cosmetic condition.

The guy I think had a car to sell and sold it to the highest bidder. I wasn't the highest bidder but the guy sent me a second chance offer via email that looked really really good(better than most everything I have received). I started talking to the guy, asking to see it before I thought about accepting the offer. Well the email was spoofed, he wouldn't let me see it, no other bidder received a second chance offer(my bid was like the 8th highest of 10) and eBay has no recollection of a second chance offer. The guy was new to eBay so if he did sell the car he couldn't sell it to me at the same time, basically. I don't even know if he had the car. All I know is i signed up to check the car out on carfax and thought I would put the money to good use.

I will definitely be utilizing your services. I just have to get those VIN numbers I have at home... :D

Thanks for even offering this to people -- reports are like $25 or something along those lines.

There is a lot of this "second chance scamming" going on these days. Last month I almost got taken by one for a T42.
The scammer can look at the auction, get you name from the bidder list, and send you an email with an "edited" second chance offer. The real seller probably has no idea this is happening. Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com and let them know about it.

Some guy a few weeks back ended up being outbid in an auction I had put up to sell a laptop of mine. Later on he sent me an e-mail saying he was pleased to find he got the second chance offer due to winner's nonpayment and promised payment as soon as possible. I told him I never sent an e-mail and the wining bidder already paid and that either system glitch happened or there was an imposter afloat. It's a good thing this guy talked to me before sending off any payments. Scammers are everywhere now and you really have to keep an eye out for them.

thats what happened to me. I received second chance offer that was fake. the bad part of it is it was sent by the seller (BUT FAKE). And even though I reported it EBAY will not do anything since they cannot link the email to the user, sure its a fake one set up. I sent my emails directly through ebay so i know it was the seller. Its bull but what can i do, i already tried going through the system correctly.

back on topic, are you still able to do car lookups?

I purchased a used car and want to see what showed up on the car fax between now and the time it was purchased. (to see if the dealer actually added anything to the carfax report or not)

Thanks
