Did you uninstall something?
Assuming the sound is not simply muted, you can try reinstalling the windows UAA high def audio driver
http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;888111
And then the thinkpad audio drivers:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-61413
X21 (upgrade: 384MB ram 60GB 7200rpm)
T42 2378-DXU (upgrade: 1.5GB ram 60GB 7200rpm)
Z60m 2531-MTU (upgrade: 2GB ram)

You didn't hit the mute button above the row of F1-F12 keys did you? On my T42, its above the F5 key. You press the raise volume button beside it, to turn the volume back on. There should be an on-screen display to show you your volume setting when you press those buttons (lower volume, raise volume, mute).

I only mention this because it's happened to other new ThinkPad users on this forum.

Lost sound

Did not hit mute button. In fact the 3 audio keys no longer seem to work-nothing lights up when using them.

I think problem is from the new Amazon Unbox for downloading movies. It seemed to stop when I opened it. I now uninstalled it but my audio keys still don't seem to work.

Also how do you get the UAA drivers? Are they available here. I went to contact Microsoft by email this afternoon to get them and they refused to take the email afte I put in my serial number and referred me to IBM and they don't have them.

Thanks again

Thanks GomJabbar

I was able to install just the UAA driver from your post. I do have sound now but still cannot get the 3 sound buttons to work on top left of Thinkpad - mute, increase and decrease volume.

Any suggestions on how to get them back is appreciated.
Thanks again
