Strange A20m Problem.

#1 Post by Hans23 » Tue Sep 12, 2006 3:17 am

Gurus,
I have a A20m 2628 41U Thinkpad with Win XP pro intalled.. It came with 128 MB RAM (64+64) and Windows 98SE.

I have two 128 MB sticks.
I added both the sticks and I get the error "Cannot start windows as the following ifle is missing or corrup: system32/drivers/ntfs.sys".

I researhed on the net and someone hinted on removing the RAM and testing .

I removed one of the sticks and the Error goes away. I switiched the Memory sticks to eliminate the possiblity of one of the sticks being bad.

On swtiching the sticks, the machine boots up. I tested the sticks by putting them in either slots of Memory and all works well.

I replaced one of the 128 MB stick with the old 64MB and the combination works well. Now the meory is (128+64 =192).

I get the problem only when I use both the 128MB sticks.( 128+128=256).

Checked Lenove site for the latest BIOS and updates. Nothing woked.

The max memory supported by A20m motherboard is 512 MB.

Contacted IBM support but to no avail.

Do any of you have any suggestions as to what needs to be done to reolve this problem.

Your help and answers are greatly arppreciated.

Thanks

Hans
