Brand of LCD Pannel

#1 Post by rosemarycane » Tue Sep 12, 2006 3:22 pm

I looked up the parts for my T60 last night, and found out I have a CMO LCD pannel. To me, it looks a little more washed out with worse viewing angles than my T43. It is the 14.1" XGA display.

Any input on LCD brands? Is this an ok pannel? Appreciate any input.

A Chi Mei Optoelectronics panel on a T60 Thinkpad? That is a new one to me; if I recall correctly, their range of panels were LG, Hydis, and Samsung. This is slightly different form the LCD panels that came on the T4X Series Thinkpads in the regard that they dropped one panel maker and added a new one. Although CMO has recently debuted a new 14.1" LCD panel for laptops, so it is quite possible.

Most of the CMO panels I have seen, albeit on large viewing devices mind you, were pretty good and I couldn't tell much of a difference between them and panels from other manufacturers without looking really close. They do seem to have a strong interest in doing R&D and applying that technology to the LCD panels they make. A 14.1" of theirs I saw had 240 nits, 400:1 contrast ratio, and weighed only *300 grams*; quite possibly the lightest I have ever seen anybody make a panel of those specs for laptops. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Chris,
Thanks for the quick response! I played around with the contrast, brightness, and gama settings, and it turned out a lot better!

You really have been a wonderful help!
