Sound problems continue & low Volume on Z60m

#1 Post by HowardL » Tue Sep 12, 2006 6:50 pm

Was just checking volume on Windows Media Player 10 and again sound went out. It plays but no sound from computer. I opened iTunes and I get sound; cd's can play audibly.

But all settings are at MAX and volume is very low. Everything is set at highest level in control panel and on the IBM hotkeys.

Anyone have these issues and find a solution/

Thanks
Howard

I assume this is all part of the same audio problem from your other thread ...

What was the last thing you did or installed yesterday (or whenever that was) when the audio first disappeared?

You had to reinstall the UAA high def audio drivers and also the hot keys drivers - did you try reinstalling the ibm soundmax audio drivers too? (I provided a link to them yesterday, in my post where I provided the useless link to the microsoft UAA page)

The thought occurs that you could have a problem with your headphone jack making a poor connection. Try plugging in a set of headphones and see how the sound is then.

Thanks again for everyones assistance. This site is really helpful for first time Thinkpad owners.

Humpa, I did install the UAA from your post and was able to just install that one driver. Then I was forced to reinstall the Soundmax drivers and I got my sound back.

GomJabbar, I am not using any headset - just the sound from computer speakers to test.

Here is what I did. Yesterday I went to play a movie downloaded from the new Amazon Unbox. That seemed to screw things up and then I tried to play it on MediaPlayer10 and then that got screwed up. I uninstalled Amazon Unbox and got rid of registry keys and got my sound back. But WMP10 was working/not working. After posting, I figured that maybe something happened to WMP from trying to play the movie that was in Amazon Unbox. So I uninstalled WMP and reinstalled the new WMP11 Beta. Now I am working again. So thanks for all the support. I have been recommending this site to other Thinkpad owners.

Glad to hear it (pun intended).

BTW, I believe the GomJabber was thinking that there might've been a loose connection in the wiring of the headphone jack - because if that was the case, it could cause a problem with the sound output from the speakers. He didn't think you were using the headphone jack, but wanted you to try it to see if that might be the problem. That wasn't the problem, as you've found out, but I just figured I'd mention that anyway.
