ThinkVantage, volume up, down, mute buttons not working!!!

#1 Post by kjjb0204 » Wed Sep 13, 2006 3:30 pm

Hello all. Thanks in advance for your help. It seems the volume buttons and thinkvantage button suddenly stopped working. I can control volume through windows volume panel and open the thinkvantage productivity center through the start menu though. Any ideas on what I did or how to fix?

Thank you!

Did you screw with msconfig or anything like that? There are a couple of processes that need to be running for any of the buttons up there to work. I stopped about half of the processes via msconfig and trial and error and now everything I need runs (don't turn off tpshocks in case you are tempted) and all my buttons are cool.

But I did manage to kill all those buttons by shutting off some of the TP utilities but I couldn't tell you which exactly...

check if all of these are running in task manager:

TPHDEXLG
TPHKMGR
TPKmpSvc
TPONSCR
TPScrex
TpShocks
tvtsched

This is all I have running (of the TP stuff) and volume works fine.

There are a few of those that I don't even see in Task manager. I don't see:

TPONSCR
TPScrex
THHKMGR

I have the others. I checked msconfig and normal startup is selected. All programs in startup are checked.

Any other thoughts anynoe?

Since the forums are slow tonight, I decided to browse to X60 Series forum. I believe I can help you with this one. You need the Hotkey Driver for the buttons to work. Try reinstalling it. If you download from the page below, you need to double-click on 7avu42ww.exe to extract the files to your hard drive. After the files are extracted, then you can install the driver with Software Installer (uncheck box to go to the internet) or install manually by double-clicking on C:\DRIVERS\WIN\HOTKEY\setup.exe.

I'm all set. I started getting strange virus notices and other weird stuff, so I just used rescue and recovery to do a full wipe and reinstall. Everything's good again.

Thanks everyone for your tips.
