Titanium lid refit of a Z60m 2531 MTU

#1 Post by unimorpheus » Sat Sep 16, 2006 3:18 pm

I just replaced the lid on a 2531 MTU with the titanium version of the Z60m cover. 8) The ABS plastic lid was nice but offered way to much flex for my comfort and was not very damage resistant. I could not carry the laptop book style without fear of deforming the LCD. Since the 2531 MTU was not available with the titanium option I figured it had to be available as a spare part. The conversion was more time consuming than I anticipated, about 3 hours, but overall it was not that difficult. The cost on the titanium lid is about $74.00 plus shipping. The screw kit and hardware maintenance manual are also advised. I will post a picture link if anyone is interested.

I'd love to see pictures, if you have some.
I was considering doing the same to my 2531MTU, but I don't think I am going to.
I'd like the titanium lid, but I have no real need of it. And it seems like a rather involved process. I was an electronics tech, so I have no fear of what's involved, but I'm not sure it is worth it for me. I checked out the HMM, and that's quite a process to replace the "back LCD cover" (as it is called in the manual). But in the couple of quick searches I had done when I got my Z60m, I couldn't find the part number or where to buy the titanium lid, so I had put it out of my mind. Plus I thought it would've been more than $74.

EDIT: ok, I've found the part number (I guess I didn't look too hard before): 26R9582

I will have to reduce the image size of the pics. I forgot to reduce the camera setting down from 5 megapixel and the images are to large to post. I should have them up shortly. Limited bandwidth sucks.

Is it possible to refit a Z61p 9540-3au ?? I agree on the screen flex issue. It is driving me crazy. Is the lid the only thing that is titanium or are there other parts?

Couple of questions

#7 Post by rambot » Wed Nov 01, 2006 2:21 am

Is this lid really titanium or titanium painted aluminum as this site below seems to indicate?

http://www.cweb.com.hk/ust/pdf/Z61m%20Web.pdf

Also does anyone know if the lid retrofit is possible on the z61p (using the lid part from the z61m?)

Seems to me that it's a Aluminum/Titanium Mix.

Link to Z60m titanium lid retrofit.

http://home.mindspring.com/~aknoland/titanium/

The titanium lid is a two part assembly comprised of the metal cover itself which is bonded to a plastic/metal subframe and provides the majority of the structural support for the lid assembly. The hinges are actually attached to the LCD panel. The panel is then attached to the lid assembly via mounting screws on each side. The front trim bezel is the attached and is purely cosmetic.

Nice project, but one recommendation... downsize those images... not from a download perspective, but you lose a lot of effective presentation when you force the viewer to scroll around to see the images running off the screen.

500px width images should suffice.

ISV, what did you hear?

I'm very curious about a titanium lid with a z61p; it would seem there's a good possibility that lid-mount points for WSXGA and WUXGA 15.4" panels on the z61p are similar..
