#1 Post by zaku » Sat Sep 16, 2006 11:32 pm

i've came to a deal of a x30 with non working screen ($150).
the seller said it just stopped working one day. anybody experienced the samething? is it fixable without buying any parts?? everything else works as well as pluggin to an external monitor.
is it worth it??and i don't want to go with the trouble to buy any parts...

If it isn't working, you will most likely need to buy some kind of part, whether it be a CCFL (backlight), inverter, or replacement LCD.....or worst case scenario...a replacement systemboard.

Regardless, $150 might be a good price, depending on exactly what is wrong with it. The inverter is cheap and easy to replace. The CCFL is cheap but a nightmare to replace. The LCD and systemboards are expensive, but easier to replace than the CCFL.

If I had the ability, I would pick it up myself for that price.

thanks for the info.
so how can we know which of the parts you mentionned is the one that's causing the problem? like how do we check it?

cuz i don't want to buy one thing and then it's actually another thing that has to be replaced :?

After you receive the laptop, take LCD assembly apart and check to see if there is any visible cable connection issues, burned marks on the inverter. Then reconnect the LCD cable to the motherboard and do a power on test to see if you can find anything else goes wrong.

You're in kind of a rough spot, unless the current owner will allow you to take the system apart using the Hardware Maintenance Manual. Chances are though, if it is a simple connection problem, the price might jump up on your pretty quickly, because $150 (USD or CAN) is very cheap for an X30.

As for telling whether it is the Inverter, CCFL, etc, it will depend on a couple of things. Did the current owner notice any red/pink tint upon boot, prior to the LCD going out? Was it sudden?

If it was sudden, then chances are it might be the inverter. If there was a red/pink tint, then chances are it is the CCFL.

Now, keep in mind that these "signs" are not definate signs of the specific parts, but are generally indicators.

also it will probably be the ccfl if the screen flickers....
