Verify that the S-Video is connected to a TV input jack and not a TV output jack. I made that mistake recently.

Make sure the TV channel or input is set to the input jack and not to some other channel. Some TV's have more than one input, so you need to select the correct one.

EDIT: I am not sure, but you may have to close the display properties box, then reopen it for the TV to be seen.

EDIT 2: On the settings tab, Make sure your adapter is set up to use Monitor 1 - the Primary Display. Click on the large number 1. Monitor 2 should be not active.

Try booting your T43 with the S-Video cable already attached to the TV, THEN go into your settings.

The choices aren't turned on, because the system doesn't know that there IS another option. By booting with the S-video cable running from the T43 to the TV, it should recognize it.

I had to use Presentation Director to get it to work right on my T23.

On my T42, I do not need to boot up with the S-Video cable connected.

If possible, try your S-Video cable between a DVD player, VCR, or Video Camera and your TV. Can you see anything from the DVD player, VCR, or Video Camera on the screen of the TV?

Press Fn + F7 and choose My Normal Display Settings, or try choosing Factory Default ThinkPad Display Settings (LCD only).

Perhaps your video driver is not correctly installed. On Display > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor, there should be Generic Television listed as one of the Monitor types. In Device Manager, Generic Television should be listed under Monitors. Make sure you have no red X's or yellow !'s in Device Manager. Also in Device Manager check View > Show Hidden Devices. Are any of the devices listed under Non-Plug and Play Drivers a lighter shade of gray than the others?

Perhaps Presentation Director is interfering with your S-Video.

I used to have a ThinkPad 600E that had a TV-Out card built-in, and which I used to watch DVD's on my TV. One time I left the cable plugged in to the VCR while both were off, and a stong electrical storm came by. The TV-Out card would no longer work. The VCR and TV were unaffected. It is possible your S-Video out is not working. It is also possible your S-Video cable is defective.

EDIT: One other thought. Do you have another TV or a VCR with an S-Video input jact that you can connect your S-Video cable from your ThinkPad to - to test?

somehow, i got it working. im not sure but it works now...the only thing i noticed that may have made it work was that i only had the s-video cable hooked up to the tv and then decided i'd just try to hook up the audio cable at the same time and somehow it started working...so thanks!
