Fan problem

#1 Post by Toncha » Sun Sep 17, 2006 5:35 pm

Hello everybody,

I have a funny fan problem. Some times it's sounding like there is something in the fan or the fan is scratching the metal floor of the fan. so, i dissasembled the thinkpad, cleaned out the fan area, and put it back together... well, everything was good for a month then again the noise came... again i opened the lappy and there is no dirt or nothing inside. the noise dissapears when i tilt it to the side. Any ideas? would it be harmfull if i simply ignore it or should i replace the FRU heatsink/fanassembly?

Also... Hotswapping the battery, did anyone try to hotswap the battery while the thinkpad was on AC power? i mean, still on acpower and then replace the battery with another one?

Thx upfront

It sounds like the bearings inside the fan are wasted, you will need to replace the fan assembly to fix that.
